Modern ecological concerns are driving an urgent need for a fresh approach to construction using recyclable, renewable, reusable, and carbon-storing materials. Timber possesses all the required qualities to meet these needs. Prefabrication, industrialization, and off-site manufacturing are seeing gradual growth within the building industry since these methods cut construction time, reduce both energy usage and CO2 emissions as well as waste output. This transformation necessitates more control and precision in design and manufacturing; thus architects, engineers, and designers are at the forefront of these developments. This seminar focuses on the building industry’s most recent concerns, including how building with wood can help to tackle climate change, safety matters including fire and earthquake performance, the manufacturing technology of prefabricated construction systems, and improvements in timber structure bracing. Lastly, international mass timber buildings with regard to building codes and BIM, will be explored.
